CARSON, Calif. — Jesse Marsch scored in the 60th minute to help Chivas USAbeat the New England Revolution 2-0 Saturday night.
Maykel Galindo scored in the 88th minute to help Chivas (6-4-2) overcome thesending off of captain Claudio Suarez. He received a red card for elbowing NewEngland forward Adam Cristman in the 81st minute.
Marsch scored his first goal of the season on the hour mark when Ante Razovfed him a ball inside the penalty area. Razov had three defenders draped on himbut flicked a pass to Marsch, who sent the ball in off the left post.
After Suarez was ejected, Galindo caught the Revolution (6-3-4) on acounterattack. He evaded defender Jay Heaps and knocked a left-footed shot infrom the corner of the left corner of the penalty area.
Four players were absent due to U.S. national team duty. Chivas USA waswithout defender Jonathan Bornstein, midfielder Sacha Kljestan and goalkeeperBrad Guzan while New England made do without striker Taylor Twellman. Thequartet is playing for the United States in the Copa America, South America’ssoccer championship.
Chivas also played without Shavar Thomas, who served a one-game suspensionfor receiving a red card June 21 at Houston.
Without the missing players, Chivas USA trotted out a patchwork lineup.Central defender Jason Hernandez started for just the second time this season.Right back Lawson Vaughn was rushed back from an ankle injury while Alex Zotincamoved from his right defense spot into the midfield.
Goalkeeper Preston Burpo, meanwhile, started for the first time this year.Burpo had a team-high nine victories a year ago but has been on the bench behindGuzan this season.
The Revolution, meanwhile, started Adam Cristman and Pat Noonan at forward.The duo have a combined five goals this season.
Cristman nearly scored six minutes into the second half but pushed an openheader just wide of the post. The teams combined for just four shots on goal.
