HOUSTON — Penny Taylor scored 26 points to lead the Phoenix Mercury to a92-75 win over the Houston Comets on Saturday night.

Kelly Mazzante added 15 points as the Mercury snapped Houston’s four-gamehome winning streak and did so without star guard Diana Taurasi, who completedher two-game league suspension on Saturday.

The Mercury also beat Houston 90-85 last Sunday in Phoenix.

The Comets (9-7) got a season-high 17 points from Roneeka Hodges, but lostfor just the second time in six games after starting the season with thesecond-worst start in WNBA history.

Houston (4-12) lost its first 10 games of the season and fell to 4-5 athome.

Tina Thompson added 16 points for the Comets, who will not play again untilJuly 6 when they host the Seattle Storm to complete a five-game homestand.

Cappie Pondexter, who missed the past three games with a strained groin,added 13 points for the Mercury, who had lost three of four before back-to-backwins over the Comets.

Kelly Miller also scored 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting.

Hodges made a long three-pointer to get Houston within 51-47 with 5:32 leftin the third, but the Mercury pulled away with a 12-2 run.

Tangela Smith started the run with four points and Mazzante capped it with along three pointer to make it 63-49 with 3:12 to go.

The Comets jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first two minutes, but theMercury rallied as Taylor took control with a game-high 14 points in the firsthalf.

Taylor hit a wide-open jumper to give Phoenix its first lead of the gamewith 1:25 left in the first quarter. But the Comets tied the game at 20 at theend of the first quarter.

The Mercury outscored Houston 22-16 in the second to take control and led by20 in the fourth quarter.
