COLUMBUS, Ohio — Kei Kamara scored his second goal of the season and theColumbus Crew beat the New York Red Bulls 1-0 Saturday night.

Kamara went above a New York defender to head home a crossing pass fromsecond-half substitute Andy Herron in the 69th minute.

Crew coach Sigi Schmid selected Herron off the bench to replace starterJacob Thomas just two minutes before Herron supplied Kamara with thegame-winning assist.

The victory gave Columbus (4-4-6) its third straight win and a four-gameunbeaten streak. The Red Bulls fell to 6-4-3 and have one win in their past fivegames.

The Crew’s attackers mustered several scoring chances, including five cornerkicks during the first 16 minutes.

The Red Bulls’ offense, including star striker Juan Pablo Angel, was stifledby the Crew defense.

Columbus limited Angel, who entered with a six-game scoring streak, to oneshot in the first half that was deflected before it could reach goalkeeper WillHesmer.

Kamara nearly scored in the sixth minute when he fired a left-footed strikeinto the side netting from a tight angle inside the penalty area.

Thomas shot just over the upper-right corner of the goal after a hard run inthe 27th minute left him one-on-one against Red Bulls goalkeeper RonaldWaterreus.

New York’s best scoring opportunity of the first half came in the 38thminute when midfielder Dave van den Bergh hit the side netting of the goal fromjust outside the 6-yard box.
