FONTANA, California (Ticker) – Denny Hamlin likes the look up front.

Hamlin posted a top speed of 180.316 miles per hour in his Chevrolet Monte Carlo for a lap of 39.930 seconds to take the pole at the Camping World 300.

Hamlin, the winner of five poles on the Busch Series circuit this season, just edged Kasey Kahne, who came in at 180.162 in a Dodge Charger.

Kyle Busch in a Chevy and Ryan Newman in a Dodge, comprise the second row at California Speedway. Busch’s time was 40.008 while Newman finished at 40.076.

Jeff Burton came in fifth in a Chevy, while Greg Biffle will be next to him in a Ford Fusion.

Series points leader Carl Edwards rolls his Ford off 14th after a qualifying effort of 40.697.
