FOXBOROUGH, Massachusetts (Ticker) — The New England Revolution on Friday signed Gambian midfielder Sainey Nyassi to a contract. Terms were not disclosed. Nyassi, a member of Gambia’s 2007 Under-20 World Cup squad, will occupy one of New England’s youth international roster spots. “We are pleased to add Sainey to the roster,” Revolution director of soccer Michael Burns said. “He has seen tremendous success with the Gambian youth national team, and we’re looking forward to developing his talents further with our team.” Nyassi helped Gambia’s Under-20 team advance to the knockout rounds of the 2007 World Cup. He started all four games in the tournament, including victories over New Zealand and Portugal. The 18-year-old also was a member of the Gambian team that reached the quarterfinals of the 2007 African Youth Championships earlier this year. The Revolution on Friday also waived midfielders Arsene Oka and Ryan Solle.
