FRISCO, Texas (Ticker) – Brazilian World Cup winner Denilson has been cleared to play for Major League Soccer side FC Dallas on Friday.

He is expected to make his MLS debut on September 1 when Dallas hosts D.C. United at Pizza Hut Park after receiving his work visa.

PHILADELPHIA — Backup quarterback A.J. Feeley had surgery Friday to repaira broken hand sustained in the Philadelphia Eagles’ 13-11 loss Thursday to theNew York Jets.

Feeley had surgery on his left, nonthrowing hand Friday morning inPhiladelphia. His status for the team’s regular season opener against Green Bayon Sept. 9 has yet to be determined.

BIRMINGHAM, England – Birmingham signed Honduras midfielder Wilson Palacios on loan from Olimpia on Friday.

Palacios will initially stay with the Premier League club until the end of December and if he impresses manager Steve Bruce he will complete a permanent deal from his Honduran club which would keep him at St Andrews’ until 2010.

The 23-year-old was recommended to Bruce by Arsene Wenger. The Arsenal manager had Palacios on trial but decided he did not have room in his squad for another midfielder.


SAN JOSE, Calif. — Patrick Marleau agreed to a two-year contract extensionwith the San Jose Sharks on Friday, keeping the longtime captain with the clubthrough 2010.

After months of negotiations and public speculation on Marleau’s future, hefinalized a deal two weeks before training camp opens to stay with the club thatdrafted him in 1997.

STANFORD, Calif. — UCLA coach Karl Dorrell had a much harder time scoutingStanford than he usually does before his Bruins play a Pac-10 foe.

Instead of watching film of the Cardinal last season, Dorrell and his staffspent more time poring over video from San Diego and Western Michigan to try tolearn what the new Stanford playcallers like to do.
