SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento Monarchs forward Rebekkah Brunson wasarrested early Thursday on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Brunson apologized to the team and fans for the arrest.
“I am very embarrassed and ashamed, and I am well aware of the seriousnessof the situation,” she said in a statement on the team’s Web site. “It’s notrepresentative of how I live my life, and I recognize what a huge mistake thisis. I am deeply sorry.”
In a statement on the team’s Web site, Monarchs general manager JohnWhisenant said he was disappointed about Brunson’s “poor personal judgment”.
“We believe she understands the implications and the seriousness of heractions, and we will be supporting Rebekkah during this time,” he said.
California Highway Patrol did not immediately return a phone call from TheAssociated Press seeking details of the case.
The 25-year-old Brunson has been with the Monarchs for four seasons. She wasthe team’s second-leading scorer at 11.5 points per game.
