SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (TICKER) — Sacramento Monarchs forward Rebekkah Brunson on Thursday was charged with a DUI violation.
Brunson, 25, was stopped for a routine moving violation early Thursday morning and subsequently was tested and charged with the DUI.
“I would like to apologize to the Sacramento Monarchs organization, the Sacramento Monarchs fans and the Sacramento community,” Brunson said in a statement. “I am very embarrassed and ashamed and I am well aware of the seriousness of the situation.
“It’s not representative of how I live my life and I recognize what a huge mistake this is. I am deeply sorry.”
Brunson, in her third year, led the Monarchs with 8.9 rebounds per game this past season and was second in scoring at 11.5 points per game.
“We’ve communicated our deep disappointment to Rebekkah regarding the poor personal judgment which allowed this incident to occur and we take this very seriously,” Monarchs coach John Whisenant said. “We believe she understands the implications and the seriousness of her actions and we will be supporting Rebekkah during this time.”
