CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Rookie Al Horford scored a career-high 22 points and theAtlanta Hawks held off a second-half rally to beat the Charlotte Bobcats 104-98Thursday in an exhibition game. Horford, who led Florida to back-to-back NCAA titles before becoming thethird pick in the draft, added 12 rebounds for the Hawks. Josh Childress had 19 points, Josh Smith 17 and Marvin Williams 12 forAtlanta. Anthony Johnson and rookie Acie Law each added 10. Gerald Wallace had 34 points and 10 rebounds for the Bobcats, who were outrebounded 45-29 — including 17-4 in offensive boards. Jason Richardson had 17points and Raymond Felton added 13. Down nine at halftime, Charlotte led three times in the third quarter, thelast at 62-61 on a pair of free throws by Wallace with 3:15 left. The Bobcats tied it at 76 on a layup by Richardson with 10:35 remaining inthe fourth quarter, but a jumper by Williams followed by a dunk from Horford putAtlanta ahead to stay. Atlanta center Zaza Pachulia left late in the third quarter after spraininghis left knee.
