COLUMBIA, Mo. — Chase Daniel threw for 210 yards and a touchdown and No. 15Missouri intercepted Graham Harrell four times, returning one for a score whilethrottling the nation’s top offense in a 41-10 victory over No. 22 Texas Tech onSaturday. Backup tailback Jimmy Jackson had 59 yards and three touchdowns on 12carries for Missouri, filling in for Tony Temple, sidelined a second straightgame by a sprained ankle. Freshman Derrick Washington added 66 yards on nine carries for Missouri(6-1, 2-1 Big 12), which rebounded from a 10-point loss at Oklahoma last weekand is 2-1 during a three-game stretch against ranked opponents. Missouri has won 13 of its last 14 at home. The scoring total was by far a season low for Texas Tech (6-2, 2-2), whichentered the game first in points (50) and yards (582) per game. Missouri scoredon its first four possessions of the second half to top its 40-point average ina game that didn’t come close to fulfilling expectations of a back-and-forthpointfest between two of the most prolific passers in the country. Texas Tech entered the rankings last week after a 35-7 victory over TexasA&M. The high point for the Red Raiders Saturday was a 68-yard touchdown passfrom Harrell to Edward Britton in the second quarter that cut Missouri’s lead to10-7. Harrell, who entered the game with 31 TD passes and only threeinterceptions, was 44-for-69 for 397 yards. He completed 83 percent of his passes the previous two weeks, going66-for-80 for seven touchdowns with one interception. The attempts was a seasonhigh and the yardage is second-lowest of the year and fewest against a majorcollege opponent. Jackson, a junior, ran for just 84 yards in the first six games. Texas Tech was stopped in its first four attempts on fourth down againstMissouri, which surrendered 41 points against Oklahoma. The Red Raiders finished3-for-6 on fourth down, all of the conversions coming after Missouri establishedcontrol. Texas Tech’s Michael Crabtree, who leads the nation in receiving and scoringwith 17 touchdowns, had 10 catches for 76 yards to set an NCAA freshman recordof 1,320 yards with four games plus a bowl appearance to go. He entered the gameneeding 22 yards to surpass the mark set by USC’s Mike Williams in 2002, but washeld out of the end zone for the second straight week. Missouri kept it on the ground for the most part against a defense designedto stop the passing game. Daniel was 14-for-19, a season low by 15 attempts,adding a 57-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Maclin in the fourth quarter. Texas Tech was shut out in the first quarter for the second straight game,trailing 10-0, although the Red Raiders’ defense kept it close. The lonetouchdown came on a 38-yard interception return by Stryker Sulak on a balltipped high in the air, and Missouri had to settle for a 21-yard field goallater in the quarter after a drive that fizzled at the 1. Texas Tech ended its drought on a TD connection from Harrell to Britton with6:39 left in the second quarter, but Missouri answered with its first offensivetouchdown only 1:39 later on Jackson’s 1-yard run for a 17-7 lead. Missouri’s Cornelius Brown intercepted Harrell late in the first half, butfumbled into the arms of Texas Tech wide receiver Danny Amendola to give the RedRaiders another chance. Alex Trlicka’s 45-yard field goal narrowed it to 17-10with 22 seconds to go.
