SAN JOSE, Calif. — Jeremy Roenick scored a power-play goal early in thesecond period and the San Jose Sharks finally won at home, beating the NashvillePredators 3-0 on Saturday night. Evgeni Nabokov stopped 22 shots to record his first shutout of the season,and the 35th of his career in the first meeting of the two teams since theSharks eliminated Nashville in the first round of last year’s playoffs. Patrick Marleau scored his first goal in seven games late in the thirdperiod for the Sharks. Chris Mason stopped 18 of 20 shots for the Predators, who lost their fifthstraight after opening the season with two victories. Nashville also fell to 0-3on the road. The Sharks, who were tied in the third period of both of their first twohome games, finally managed to hold the late advantage. Roenick signed as a free agent in September and scored the 498th goal of hiscareer. He’s attempting to become the third U.S. born player to record 500goals. He could also move past Joe Mullen (502 goals) into second place behindMike Modano this year. Mason stopped a point blank shot by Michael Grier just over a minute beforeallowing Roenick’s goal. The Sharks held a two-man advantage at the time as thePredators allowed their first power-play goal on the road after killing off thefirst nine. Mason also stopped Milan Michalek’s breakaway attempt just before Marleauscored his second goal of the season. Christian Ehrhoff picked up a sloppy pass during a line change that led toMarleau’s drive toward the net. The puck glanced off Mason’s pads, shot up andoff his glove into the net for the insurance score. Predators’ Alexander Radulov, who took two shots, had his four-game pointstreak end, while Jason Arnott remains one assist away from 400. His next gamewill be his 900th. Michalek added an empty-net goal as time ran out.
