WASHINGTON — D.C. United and the Chicago Fire both extended unbeatenstreaks by playing to a scoreless tie Saturday night.

United (16-6-7) is unbeaten in its last 13 MLS games. The Fire (9-10-10)have a seven-game unbeaten streak. It was the first time D.C. failed to scoresince losing 1-0 at New York on July 22, the game before United started itsstreak.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Juan Pablo Angel scored two goals to lead the NewYork Red Bulls to a 2-1 victory over the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday night.

The Red Bulls (12-11-6) clinched third place in the MLS’ Eastern Conference,while the Wizards (10-12-7) missed an opportunity to take the conference’s finalplayoff spot. Kansas City is tied with Chicago, with both teams having one gameleft.

FRISCO, Texas — Brad Guzan made five saves for his MLS-leading 12th shutoutof the season to help Chivas USA tie FC Dallas 0-0 on Thursday night.

Chivas (15-6-7) extended its unbeaten streak to 11 games (7-0-4) and movedfour points ahead of Houston for the Western Conference lead with two games leftfor each club. Guzan has the second-highest shutout total in MLS history,trailing Tony Meola’s league-record 16 with Kansas City in 2000.

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — Joran Kirovski scored on a penalty kick in the 44thminute, and the Colorado Rapids snapped a five-game winless streak with a 1-0victory over Toronto FC on Sunday night.

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. — Chad Barrett scored the winning goal and had an assistin the Chicago Fire’s 2-1 victory over the New England Revolution on Saturdaynight.

Barrett scored in the 60th minute, beating Matt Reis after the goalkeeperblocked Paulo Wanchope’s shot. It was Barrett’s seventh goal of the season.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Abe Thompson scored two late goals to help FC Dallas wrapup an MLS playoff berth with a 3-1 victory over the Columbus Crew on Saturdaynight.

Arturo Alvarez also scored for Dallas (13-11-4). The loss put the Crew(7-11-10) on brink of missing the playoff for the third straight year.

LOS ANGELES (TICKER) — U.S. National Team forward Landon Donovan on Friday was chosen as Honda Player of the Year for the fourth time in his career.

The award, which goes to the best player on the National Team, is voted on by the American Sports media. Donovan received 413 points, besting runner-up Tim Howard (122) by nearly 300 points.

Carlos Bocanegra rounded out the top three with 105 points.

TORONTO — Maurice Edu scored and the Red Bulls added an own-goal as TorontoFC snapped a 12-game winless streak by defeating New York 2-1 on Thursday,preventing the Red Bulls from clinching a playoff berth.

Edu gave Toronto the lead in the 18th minute with his fourth goal of theseason. Marvell Wynne sent a ball through New York’s back line that Edu drovelow and hard past Red Bulls goalkeeper Ronald Waterreus.

NEW YORK — Houston Dynamo midfielder Ricardo Clark was suspended nine gamesby the MLS — the longest in league history — for violently kicking Carlos Ruizon Sunday.

With Houston winning 3-0, Clark kicked Ruiz in the right shoulder while hewas on the ground, causing a brief skirmish between the teams. Clark wasejected.
